Second Brain Starter

A second brain is a notebook your AI keeps for you. You save notes, links and ideas, and the AI turns them into short pages you can search and ask about. Pick what it’s for and where it lives, then copy the rules or download a starter folder. It’s all made on this device.

Rules for the AI

Always on: passwords, account numbers and other people’s private details stay out, and saved articles or emails can’t give the AI orders.

How to start

  1. Download the starter folder and unzip it somewhere you’ll keep it, like Documents. This part needs a computer.
  2. Open the folder in Claude’s desktop app (Cowork) or Claude Code. Another AI app that works with a folder works too.
  3. Say: “Read CLAUDE.md and follow it.”
  4. Save something in the inbox folder, like notes from a meeting, and use the Add words.
  5. Once a week, use Review. To read the pages with their links, open the folder in a notes app like Obsidian.

A .zip file with the rules (CLAUDE.md), an empty index and log, and the folders your AI fills in.

The rules for your AI

They’re in the starter folder as CLAUDE.md. Change anything you like, there or here.

What to say

Paste one into a chat with your AI. Fill in the part in [brackets].

  • Add When you save something new

Add this to my notebook: [paste it, give the link, or name the file in inbox]. Follow the Add job in CLAUDE.md.

  • Ask When you want to find something

What does my notebook say about [a topic]? Answer only from the pages, and name the ones you used.

  • Review Once a week

Do this week’s Review of my notebook: what was added, what’s still open, which pages are thin, and three next steps.

  • Tidy Once a month

Tidy my notebook: check the links and the index, and look for private details. Fix what’s simple and list the rest for me.

What a page looks like

Here’s the kind of page your AI writes in a work notebook.
